The Lebanese political system is eminently controversial. While some may propose it as a model for emulation in the pursuit of productive solutions to regional woes, notably in the consideration of the future of each of Syria and Iraq, others accuse it of consolidating patterns of corruption, denying afflicted societies — Lebanon completely, Iraq partially, and Syria potentially — the possibility of acceding to genuine representative governance as a step towards the confirmation of national identity and overcoming factional fragmentation.
